What does it mean for me and my partner if I have HPV?
If you are infected with high-risk HPV, your male partner(s) may be infected and have a chance of developing penile cancer. Symptoms may not appear at all after getting high-risk HPV, though virus will be carried for a lifetime.
If you are infected with low-risk HPV, you may have genital warts which may be hard to cope with. However, they are not a threat to your health. Though genital warts may be easily passed on, people with genital warts can still live a normal and healthy life. What you should do is to inform your partner(s) about your situation and avoid having sexual activity until the warts are gone or removed.
A regular STD check-up can help protect you and your partners.
