Antenatal Care
Once you get pregnant, you should go for antenatal checkup to ensure the health of your baby and yourself.
During the first visit, your doctor will gather a detailed history including your past medical and pregnancy history. An ultrasound scan will be performed to confirm the number and size of the baby and the expected date of delivery. Blood tests for blood group, haemoglobin level with mean corpuscular volume (MCV), Rhesus factor, Hepatitis B Antigen, rubella antibody, syphilis, HIV antibody, etc. would be done.
Screening for fetal chromosomal abnormalities is advised. There are a few screening tests such as OSCAR (“One-Stop Clinic for Assessment of Risk”) which includes scanning for the thickness of the back of the neck of the fetus with blood tests of mother’s hormone level, Safe T21 and NIFTY test. Please consult your doctor to find out which one is the most suitable for you.
During the subsequent visits, your blood pressure and urine analysis will be examined. There will be ultrasound scans to monitor the growth of the baby.
A structural scan will be performed between 18-22 weeks gestation to look for any structural problems of the baby.
An oral glucose tolerance test will be done between 26-28 weeks gestation to look for any diabetes during pregnancy.
We aim to ensure a safe and healthy pregnancy for you and your baby. Do discuss with your doctor if you have any concerns.
